Red for gaming, brown for typing?

Use those colours as a starting vocabulary, not a rule. CHERRY Red is linear, Brown has tactile feedback and Blue adds a click. People can type on linears and game on tactiles. Identify the exact switch: colour alone does not establish force, travel or sound across brands.

Four terms worth knowing

Actuation
The point where the keyboard registers input.
Bottom-out
The end of the downward travel. You may register input before reaching it.
Reset
When the key stops registering as held as you release it.
Tactile bump
A change in resistance that you feel. It is not necessarily the exact actuation point.

Quiet is a separate requirement

A switch without a click can still make noise when pressed and released. Dedicated silent switches add damping. We do not assign decibel ratings or promise office silence without a controlled test of the assembled keyboard.

When to consider Hall Effect

Consider it when adjustable actuation and Rapid Trigger are features you intend to use. Very sensitive settings may take practice. Software, calibration and the exact keyboard matter; magnetic sensing alone is not a performance ranking.

Can I change the switches later?

Check the socket and switch family before purchasing replacements. Standard mechanical, low-profile, optical and magnetic systems are not universally interchangeable. A barebone keyboard also needs the components listed as excluded in its package.
